Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Options for Prostate Cancer

October 29, 2024

Several men suffer from prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction undergo manifold treatments. Radical prostatectomy is a common option for men with prostate cancer. This procedure involves surgical removal of the prostate gland and its surrounding tissue.

Surgical procedures predispose men to noticeable signs of erectile dysfunction. With the increasing number of patients with prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction, prostatectomy surgeries begin to rise. The goal of this surgery is to restore men’s sexual function and prevent serious health threats.

Oral treatments include Levitra, Cialis, and Viagra have gained acceptance over the years. However, men suffering from prostate cancer may also have medications that can potentially interfere with the current treatment.

Alternative Treatments for Prostate Cancer and Erectile Dysfunction

There are other safe and effective ED treatment options available in the market. Experts introduce several alternative treatments to fight against the debilitating effects of prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction.

The alternative treatment includes sex therapy, intracavernous pharmacotherapy (ICP) and vacuum suction devices. Among the several treatments, intracavernous pharmacotherapy (ICP) is the most effective and safe treatment for erectile dysfunction.

Intracavernous Pharmacotherapy for ED Patients

ICP injections involve painless administration of vasodilators into the penile tissues. This vasodilator relaxes the soft tissues of the penis. Thus, allowing more blood to enter into the penile chamber, causing a firm and natural-feeling erections.

In addition, ICP injections often prefer by men for manifold reasons. First, pills can interfere with the current medication of some patients. Thus, they rather have intracavernous pharmacotherapy instead. Lastly, most men experience fast-acting response from ICP injections.

For a more effective response, ICP is best used along with vacuum suction devices.  VSD is consists of cylindrical tube that sucks air, forcing blood to flow into the penile chamber. It also has a rubber ring at the base of the penis, keeping the blood from leaving the area.

The combination of ICP injection and vacuum suction devices show great results in men with sexual dysfunction. Therefore, it is important to discuss health issues with a doctor for the right ED treatment options.
